Cookie Policy

Last updated: May 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how QC Park Finder uses cookies, browser storage, and similar technologies on our website. It also describes certain third-party services that may set their own cookies when their scripts or content load. For information about data you send us directly (for example, through forms), see our Privacy Policy.

What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently and provide information to website owners.

QC Park Finder uses cookies and similar technologies to enhance your browsing experience, analyze website usage, and improve our services.

First-Party Browser Storage (Local Storage)

QC Park Finder saves some preferences in your browser using local storage (this is separate from HTTP cookies set by our domain). We use it so the map/list experience feels consistent when you return. Stored items include:

  • Filter preferences: Your selected filters (for example, park name search, city, state, amenities, and related options) are saved under a key such as parkFilters
  • View mode: Whether you last used map view or list view is saved under a key such as parkViewState
  • Optional “near me” coordinates: If you turn on location-based filtering and grant browser permission, approximate latitude and longitude may be stored inside that same saved filter data so distance filtering can resume on a later visit. Coordinates are not sent to our servers for storage by this mechanism; they stay on your device unless you use features that explicitly submit data to us (see the Privacy Policy)
  • Bathroom ratings (device storage): For parks with restrooms, the site may store a random client identifier and your last star selection in local storage (for example, keys like qcpf_bathroom_client_<park id> and qcpf_bathroom_last_stars_<park id>) so your browser can update the same rating later. For the current browser tab/session, a small session storage flag may also be used for analytics context (for example, whether a rating was new or updated in that session)

You can clear this data any time via your browser’s settings for site data / local storage for this website.

Google Analytics (GA4)

QC Park Finder loads Google Analytics 4 (GA4) using measurement ID G-RYL7VGR3P1 (Google tag / gtag.js). Google Analytics cookies and similar technologies are set when that tag runs in your browser. If the tag is blocked or fails to load, GA4 will not set those cookies for that visit.

When GA4 is active, Google may process information such as:

  • How many people visit and which pages or screens are viewed
  • How visitors move through the site and how long they stay
  • Which features (for example, filters or views) are used
  • General geographic and technical information (such as region or device type), as determined by Google’s product behavior

We may also send custom events (for example, when you use certain buttons or links, submit feedback, or save a bathroom star rating) to help us understand product usage. Those events are meant for aggregate understanding of the product, not to identify you by name. Some events may include non-sensitive contextual labels (such as a park name you interacted with on the site, or coarse attributes like star values or whether a rating was updated in the same session). For details on how Google processes data, see Google’s documentation and privacy materials linked below.

Google’s analytics services process data under Google’s terms and privacy policy. GA4 is not intended to replace a government ID or contact you directly; however, like many analytics tools, it relies on identifiers and logs that Google treats according to its policies.

How We Categorize Technologies

Strictly necessary (first-party)

Core browsing and preferences for this site are handled primarily through first-party local storage (described above), not through cookies we set on our own domain for those preferences. Blocking all cookies in your browser may still affect unrelated features; clearing site data for this domain will remove saved filters and view mode.

Analytics (third-party, when loaded)

When the Google Analytics tag is present and runs, Google may use analytics cookies or similar storage as part of GA4. Those technologies are controlled by Google and are subject to Google’s policies.

Third-Party Services and Cookies

Parts of QC Park Finder load resources from third parties. Those providers may use cookies, local storage, or similar technologies according to their own policies. Examples relevant to the public site include:

  • Google Analytics / Google Tag (when the tag is loaded): see Google’s Privacy Policy and Google’s materials for Google Analytics / measurement products
  • Mapbox (interactive maps): map tiles, fonts, and related requests are served by Mapbox; see Mapbox’s Privacy Policy
  • Google Fonts (web fonts): fonts may be loaded from Google; see Google’s privacy documentation
  • Tailwind CSS (development-style tooling via CDN on some pages): the CDN provider may process technical data associated with delivering the script

External links (for example, “Buy me a coffee”) take you to other sites that have their own cookie practices.

Your Choices: Cookies, Storage, and Analytics

You can control many technologies through your browser or device:

  • Site data / local storage: Clear stored data for this site to remove saved filters, view mode, any saved “near me” coordinates stored in filter state, and bathroom-rating local identifiers (if present)
  • Cookies: View, delete, or block cookies (including third-party cookies) using your browser’s settings
  • Google Analytics: Google provides an opt-out browser add-on and related documentation. See Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on (Google)

We may add or change on-site consent or preference controls over time (for example, if we adjust how we load analytics). If we do, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date.

Blocking third-party cookies or certain scripts may affect map loading or analytics, and clearing first-party storage will reset your saved QC Park Finder preferences.

How Long Things Last

Google Analytics cookies (when used) are governed by Google’s defaults and your browser settings; analytics cookies are often written with expiration windows that can extend up to a long period (commonly up to two years in many setups) unless removed earlier.

First-party local storage for QC Park Finder preferences persists until you clear site data for this website, until you reset preferences in the app, or until newer data replaces older saved values.

Changes to This Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Cookie Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
