Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2026

At QC Park Finder, we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use our website and related services (including our public API used by the site).

Information You Provide by Using the Site

Browsing without an account: You can browse park listings without creating an account. We do not require payment information for normal public use of the directory.

Device-side preferences: We use browser local storage to remember filter choices, map/list view preference, and (if you opt in) approximate coordinates for “near me” style filtering. That data stays on your device unless you submit a form that separately sends information to us. Details are in our Cookie Policy.

Automatic technical data: Like most websites, when your browser loads pages or calls our API, our servers and hosting infrastructure may automatically process technical information such as IP address, user agent, timestamps, and request metadata. We use this information for security, reliability, abuse prevention (including rate limiting on submissions), and operations.

Information You Choose to Submit to Us

If you use our voluntary submission features, we store the content of your submission on our systems so we can review and act on it. This may include personal information you choose to include in free-text fields.

Site feedback (menu: “Feedback”)

Feedback is sent to our API at api.qcparkfinder.com. Fields may include: topic/subject category, your message (required), optional related park selection, optional name, and optional email if you want us to be able to reply. Do not include sensitive personal information, passwords, or financial information in your message.

Park correction and edit requests (park details pages)

When you suggest updates to park information, we collect the data needed to review your request (for example, park identifier, the section or fields involved, current and proposed values as applicable, your comments, and an optional name). This is sent to our API and stored for moderation and quality control.

Bathroom ratings (park details pages)

If a park lists restrooms, you may submit an overall star rating (1–5) for the bathroom experience. The public site does not collect written comments for this feature right now. We store the numeric rating in our database (together with a random client key you did not type yourself) so we can show aggregates and so the same browser can update the same rating later if you change your mind. We do not require an account for this feature, and we do not store your IP address in the bathroom ratings table. Your browser may store that client key and your last selected star value in local storage for this site (see our Cookie Policy). Our API may still apply standard rate limiting using ephemeral technical data as part of operating the service (see “Automatic technical data” above).

We do not use these submission flows to build a marketing mailing list. If you provide an email for feedback, we would use it only for purposes related to your message (for example, responding), consistent with what you asked us to do.

Future: Photos and Other Media Uploads

If we enable direct photo or media uploads in the future, we may collect additional information needed to operate that feature safely and lawfully, which may include:

  • IP addresses and technical metadata associated with uploads (for security, fraud prevention, and legal compliance)
  • Optional contact information you choose to provide (for example, credit or communication)
  • Uploaded files and descriptions you submit, which may be reviewed, moderated, and displayed according to our Terms of Service

If this changes, we will update this Privacy Policy and the “Last updated” date.

How We Use Your Information

  • To operate, maintain, and secure the website and API
  • To review, moderate, and process feedback and park edit requests
  • To improve listings, features, and user experience
  • To detect, investigate, and help prevent abuse, spam, or fraud (including rate limiting)
  • To ensure compliance with our Terms of Service and applicable law
  • To respond to lawful requests from public authorities
  • To communicate with you when you provide contact information and ask for a response

Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the information we collect, including:

  • Secure server infrastructure
  • Regular security assessments
  • Access controls limiting who can view collected information
  • Compliance with industry-standard security practices

However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Sharing Your Information

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share information in the following circumstances:

  • Legal Requirements: When required by law, court order, or legal process, including responding to subpoenas or requests from law enforcement agencies
  • Illegal or Harmful Activity: We may preserve and share information (including technical records such as IP addresses and timestamps, and the contents of unlawful or abusive submissions where legally appropriate) with authorities when we discover illegal activity or when required by law and consistent with our Terms of Service
  • Service Providers and Infrastructure: We use vendors (for example, hosting, database, email delivery, maps, and analytics providers) to operate the service. They may process information on our behalf subject to contractual protections where applicable.
  • Analytics Providers: When enabled, tools such as Google Analytics may process usage data under their own privacy policies; see our Cookie Policy

Cookies, Analytics, and Third-Party Services

Our website may load third-party scripts and content (for example, maps, fonts, and analytics). We use Google Analytics 4 with measurement ID G-RYL7VGR3P1 when the Google tag loads in your browser; if the tag is blocked or does not run, GA4 will not set analytics cookies for that page view. We may send product usage events to understand aggregate behavior; some events may include non-sensitive contextual information (such as a park name shown on the site, whether a feedback topic was selected, or coarse attributes related to optional features like bathroom ratings).

For a plain-language breakdown (including local storage, Mapbox, and your browser controls), see our Cookie Policy.

Retention

We retain submitted feedback and park edit requests as long as needed to review them, operate the service, maintain records for integrity and security, and comply with legal obligations. We retain voluntary bathroom star ratings for as long as they remain useful to display aggregated information on the site, unless we remove them for moderation, abuse, or operational reasons. Retention periods may vary depending on the record type and operational needs.

Children's Privacy

Our website is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately so we can take appropriate action.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
